Hyderabad: Cellphone thieves held in an hour

The duo immediately lodged a complaint with the Alwal police.

Hyderabad: Two persons who impersonated police and stole two cellphones were arrested by the Bolaram police within an hour on Wednesday night. The accused were identified as M.B. Sairaj, 26, and Mohammed Kareem, 35, residents of Sadar Bazaar.

They told the victims E. Sekhar, 29, and his brother-in-law A. Krishna that they were police personnel and began frisking them.

When they resisted, the duo assaulted them and ordered them to accompany them to the police station. On the way, near a school, the duo snatched the mobile phones and escaped. The duo immediately lodged a complaint with the Alwal police.

DCP, North, Kalmeshwar Shingenavar, said that on receiving a complaint, head constable Shyam Rao and constable Zakir Hussain, who were present at the police station, alerted patrol cars and Blue Colts teams.

When they were heading to the scene, the noticed the duo moving around in suspicious circumstances. When questioned, they tried to escape but were arrested.
