Bengaluru: Will retire from politics if JD(S) wins more than 3 seats; K.N.Rajanna

No matter how many seats you give the JD(S), it will not win more than three, says K.N. Rajanna.

Bengaluru: Taking exception to the allotment of the Tumakuru Lok Sabha seat to the Janata Dal (Secular), former Congress MLA K.N. Rajanna said he will retire from politics if the JD(S) wins more than three seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls of the eight it is contesting.

"No matter how many seats you give the JD(S), it will not win more than three", he said in Tumakuru on Thursday. Asserting that the Congress is yet to take a final decision on seat sharing with the JD(S), Mr Rajanna said the party high command has been clearly told that Tumakuru was won by Congress candidate Muddahanumegowda in 2014 despite the Modi wave and should not be given to the JD(S) at any cost. Till then, party workers should not pay heed to rumours, he said.

The former MLA also said that if the Tumakuru seat finally goes to the JD(S), he would not mind contesting as an independent from the constituency. If the JD(S) was allowed to have its way, the Congress would be wiped out in the state, he warned.

Claiming that sitting Congress Tumakuru MP Muddahanumegowda was the champion of Vokkaligas and this had helped the Congress retain the seat, Mr Rajanna said allotting the seat to the JD(S) would be like cheating the Vokkaliga community.

The Congress leader also took potshots at JD(S) supremo and former PM H.D. Deve Gowda remarking that he was spoiling his reputation for the sake of promoting his grandsons in politics. “The Deve Gowda family is known for shedding tears at public functions, they will not hesitate to use this as a tool to seek votes for Nikhil Kumaraswamy in Mandya and Prajwal Revanna in Hassan,” he added.
