Coimbatore serial bomb blast convict gets parole

The bench directed the SP of Coimbatore central prison to release Mohamed Ansari on leave for 20 days from April 10, 2018, to April 30, 2018.

Chennai: The Madras high court granted 20 days of leave (parole) to Mohamed Ansari, serving a life sentence in Coimbatore central prison for his involvement in the Coimbatore serial bomb blast cases, to enable him to make arrangements for his daughter’s marriage.

A division bench comprising Justices C.T. Selvam and N. Sathish Kumar granted 20 days leave to Mohamed Ansari on a petition from his wife M. Samsunisha.

The bench directed the Superintendent of Coimbatore Central Prison to release Mohamed Ansari on leave for 20 days from April 10, 2018, to April 30, 2018. The SP should provide security to the convict on all 20 days and he should be produced before the central prison on May 1 by 10 a.m, the bench added.

In her petition, Samsunisha submitted that their elder daughter’s wedding (nikaah) was fixed on April 16 and the reception (valima) the next day. On the basis of customs, traditions and faith, there are numerous formalities and ceremonies to be performed before and after the wedding. Being a woman, she is unable to make arrangements for the marriage including money to meet the marriage expenses. Her husband’s presence is necessary. Her husband had come out on parole many times and during the period of parole, had followed all rules and conditions imposed by the Superintendent of Police and properly reported before him at the stipulated time. He was fully eligible for ordinary leave under Rule 22 of the Tamil Nadu Suspension of Sentence rules, as per which a prisoner who has completed 3 years of imprisonment is eligible for ordinary leave.

She had sent representations to the authorities, but there was no response, she added and sought a direction to the authorities to grant leave to her husband for two months.
