Bengaluru: Spill-over work debt will ruin Palike, says BJP spokesperson NR Ramesh
Bengaluru: The BBMP ruled by the Congress is trying to hide up spill-over works of previous years. From 2013-14 to 2016-17, spill-over works stand at Rs 11,037.44 crore, said Bengaluru BJP spokesperson N.R. Ramesh on Tuesday. The Congress, which is in power at the BBMP and also the state, is running a Tughlaq durbar, which if continued, will lead to shutting down of BBMP.
“The BBMP is showing spill-over works (refer to projects that are being executed in different phases that run into couple of years) for the previous year alone. Along with pending bills of Rs 1,217 crore and another Rs 700 crore bills submitted by contractors to be paid on basis of seniority, total amount stands at Rs 12,945 crore," he said.
He blamed the Congress government’s reluctance to clear pending bills and financial mismanagement for BBMP's poor financial state. If it continues, BBMP will soon be bankrupt, he said. He insisted that Rs 60,000 crore collected by the state government as taxes from the city should be handed over to the BBMP.
