Telangana seeing fillip to tourism

About 3.26 crore tourists had visited the Telangana region in undivided AP in 2005.

Hyderabad: Tourist inflow to TS from various parts of the country has doubled in the past decade. About 3.26 crore tourists had visited the Telangana region in undivided AP in 2005. But the figure shot up to 9.46 crore by the end of 2015 in TS.

Interestingly, Karimnagar, dotted by temples, archaeological and other historical monuments remains the most attractive destination for domestic tourists followed by the picturesque Adilabad.

From the famed Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple in Vemulawada, the Kondagattu Anjaneya swamy temple, Dharmapuri Laxminarasimha Swamy temple, Karimnagar has many attractions.

Adilabad is also famous for the Saraswathi temple at Basar, has rich forests and has the Kuntala and Potchera waterfalls. This was revealed in the report, ‘Reinventing Telangana, the way forward, Socio-Economic Outlook-2016’ compiled by the Planning Department of the TS government.

But while domestic tourism has increased, there has been a slump in foreign tourists arriving in the state during the past decade due to terror attacks in various countries and other reasons.

Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, which have several historical monuments, have been the hub for foreign tourists.
