The bench posted the matter for further hearing in the first week of April.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the response of the Telangana state government on an application alleging lack of accountability of teachers appointed to government schools.

24 lakh students in state schools
During the resumed hearing on Monday an application was filed which said that as per the information obta-ined through the RTI Act, there are 28,707 government schools in Telangana with 1,11,877 teachers.

The total strength of the government schools is 24 lakh, including dropouts, double enrolled students in government schools and private schools.

It said there was no accountability and proper supervision which was leading to absence of teachers in government schools. Quoting a report of the committee appointed by the High Court, it said the committee noticed the absence of teachers during their visit.

It said that teachers had been appointed for the schools where there are no students at all. The officials also appointed two to three teachers for schools where the students strength was below 10. It said that a large number of teachers were working as personnel assistants, officers on special duty for MLAs. and in the offices of the CM and ministers on deputation which was not allowed in RTE.
