TDP outsmarts Jagan Mohan Reddy's no-trust

Ramakrishnudu delays leader's speech during motion.

Hyderabad: AP legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu scored over Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the YSRC’s strategy of moving a no-confidence move against the Chandrababu Naidu government in the Assembly failed on Monday.

Mr Ramakrishnudu managed to prevent Mr Reddy from initiating the discussion as is the tradition and TD members got a chance to speak first.

The no confidence motion was later voted out. Earlier, Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada, Rao admitted the no-confidence motion that was moved by YSRC deputy leader Mr Jyothula Nehru. He adjourned the House for the Business Advisory Committee to fix the schedule for the motion.

When the House reassembled, the YSRC chief rose to initiate the debate but Mr Rama-krishnudu raised a point of order saying the debate should be initiated by the member who moved the motion, Mr Nehru in this case. He said Mr Reddy did not sign the no-trust motion. Mr Reddy replied that when the Vajpayee government lost by one vote at the Centre, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was not a signatory but was given a chance to speak.

Mr Ramakrishnudu however said the debate should be initiated by signatories and Mr Reddy could speak after at least one signatory to the motion spoke. Mr Nehru concluded his speech.

When Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy rose to speak, Mr Ramakrishnudu once again intervened and said the rules allowed two ruling party members to reply to every opposition member. The Speaker then allowed TD’s Mr Tenali Sravan Kumar and Mr Bonda Umamaheswar Rao to speak.

The two levelled several allegations on Mr Reddy. They said that YSRC MLAs had no confidence in their party president, effectively turning it into a no-confidence motion on Mr Reddy. The eight YSRC MLAs who had recently defected did not attend the session.

CM dares Jagan to give proof
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition leader Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday sparred in the House over corruption charges on Monday.

Mr Reddy made several allegations on the Telugu Desam government’s on corrupt practices. Mr Naidu challenged Mr Reddy to prove the charges. He said if the latter could prove the allegations he would take action, otherwise Mr Reddy had no right to sit in the Assembly.

The Chief Minister said two days back when he asked Mr Reddy to prove the allegations made by him regarding capital land issue, he had run away, but this time he would not let that happen.
