Rain brings relief to Bengalureans

Meteorologists said that the city could experience overcast skies along with rain or thundershowers over the next 48 hours.

Bengaluru: There was finally some relief from the heat for city dwellers as the Garden City received traces of rainfall on Sunday and Monday evenings. With the city's weather swinging to the extremes and causing Bengalureans to sweat and pray for rains, the recent weather forecast is good news. Meteorologists said that the city could experience overcast skies along with rain or thundershowers over the next 48 hours.

“According to our forecast there could be partly cloudy skies with rain or thundershowers. The maximum temperature predicted for the next 24 hours is 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum is 23 degrees Celsius," says a weather official.

However, temperatures could soar in the coming months, say experts. "The temperatures are increasing. We are seeing this kind of a trend throughout the country where there are above normal temperatures and many large scale factors are responsible for the rise," says Dr Geeta Agnihotri, Director, Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru. The maximum temperature recorded for Monday was 34.3 degrees Celsius and minimum was 24.4 degrees Celsius. Climate expert Ram Kumar says, “We are still in the El-Nino cycle. And there have been predictions that conditions could be severe. We are expecting extreme temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns in the coming days. There will be cumulative effects of climate change. Not that every micro-climate event will have an impact. Notwithstanding those, we will see a change impacting weather patterns. However, we have to look into long-term results as the change in weather may not be just due to climate change.
