Chennai: The National Human Rights Commission on Monday ordered notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, to file a report on the murder on Sunday of a Dalit youth, who married a caste Hindu girl, at Udumalpet.

Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the rights body has directed the officials to file the report in four weeks. The Commission observed that the incident raised serious questions relating to the safety of persons belonging to lower castes in the country.

Meanwhile, the Commission has issued notice to the Chief Secretary to file a factual report in two weeks regarding a 26-year old farmer, who committed suicide in Ariyalur district, after officials of a private finance firm seized his tractor, abused and insulted him to recover Rs 2 lakh due towards the loan. He was reportedly assaulted by police over non-payment of loan.
