EVKS Elangovan blames government for hampering road projects

E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Monday attributed it to lack of cooperation from the state government.

Chennai: Citing media reports that only 30 kilometres of of roads in the state had been upgraded to national highways in the last five years, TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Monday attributed it to lack of cooperation from the state government.

He alleged that the state is not taking measures for land acquisition for the extension of roads and several national highways projects are pending. Listing such road projects, he listed Chennai-Tirupati, Trichy-Karur, Trichy-Chidambaram, Villupuram-Puducherry and Thanjavur-Kanyakumari road links.

The distance of state highways too had risen by only 988 kilometre and the highways department is lagging behind in improving the roads, he said. Besides, the Harbour-Maduravoyal elevated corridor project is pending even after spending Rs 700 crore.
