Anbumani Ramadoss assails Tamil Nadu Dalit murder

Ramadoss visited Madurai on Monday evening as part of his election tour to address the people on the prevailing corruption in the state.

Madurai: The PMK chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss strongly condemns the honour killing in Tamil Nadu. “Nobody has the the right to take away the life of other people. I strongly condemn the killing of people that take place in any form,” said Ramadoss when asked about the honour killing of a young Dalit man, who married a girl of an upper caste, in Udumalpet on Monday.

Anbumani Ramadoss visited Madurai on Monday evening as part of his election tour to address the people on the prevailing corruption in the state. When reporters asked whether he would bring a separate law to prevent honour killings in the state, Anbumani said that violence that take place in any form should be approached as a law and order issue and hence he would give greater autonomy to the police to maintain peace in the state.

When asked about the party strength in southern districts, Anbumani said that over the last few years, the PMK has strengthened its base in TN. "Our presence has increased across the state," he claimed. He also categorically said PMK would face the election alone. "We will not approach any party seeking their support. If anybody approaches us, we will decide on allying with them after analysing their credibility," he said. Earlier, addressing the gathering, he stressed that reservation should continue in the country to improve the social and economic status of marginalised communities. He also assured he would take steps to release the Rajiv Gandhi assassination convicts if PMK comes to power.
