Two-day drive: 3,221 auto drivers booked for traffic violations

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police has booked 3,221 autorickshaw drivers for a variety of rule violations during a two-day drive. The drive was conducted between 7.30 am and 9.30 am and from 3 pm and 5 pm.

Seven autorickshaw drivers were found under the influence of alcohol, 179 were found carrying more school children than allowed and 10 did not have a valid licence. Another 100 drivers did not have valid documents.

Mr Anil Kumar, additional commissioner of police, traffic, said, “We kept our special focus on the vehicles without fitness certificates, the licence of drivers, conducting breathalyzer test against the drunk drivers, overloading and other violations.”

Mr Kumar said, “We also held meetings with the school managements and drivers autorickshaws to sensitise them about the consequence of violating traffic rules.”

The traffic police requested parents not to send their children in vehicles that are carrying more than the seating capacity as it could endanger the lives of children.

“The safety of your children is our prime concern. This special drive will be continued in future,” added the traffic official.
