Hyderabad: Feed the Need provides 75,000 meals in one day

The corporation also set up eight centres in each circle to distribute the food items.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation distributed 75,000 meals across the city as a part of the ‘Feed the Need’ initiative which kick-started on Valentine’s day. The food ranged from biscuits, pancakes, bread butter to sambar rice, haleem, lemon rice, bisibelebath, veg and chicken biryani.

The GHMC along with NGOs, hotels, restaurants and others distributed about 75,000 meals at several distribution centres including railway stations, bus stations, all major government and private hospitals, slums and labour addas. The corporation also set up eight centres in each circle to distribute the food items. The food packets were distributed among a range of people from beggars to hungry people waiting for food at public places.

Hotels and restaurants including Paradise, Shah Ghouse, Green Bawarchi, Pista House, Daspalla, Mehfil and Swagath Grand distributed veg and chicken biryanis. Pista House hoteliers also distributed haleem. NGOs including Apple home, Robinhood army and Deeksha Foundation distributed over 20,000 meals on Thursday. GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore said that the corporation would ensure that everyone in the city in need of food would be fed on important days including Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Mother’s Day and all other religious festivals. He said apart from hoteliers and NGOs, GHMC has also distributed 5,000 food packs to the needy.

Dasari Harichandana, zonal commissioner of Serilingampally, said the corporation would further enhance the distribution so that it would reach the needy.

She said that the corporation was planning to launch a mobile application to provide a common platform to donors and the needy. She said that the mechanism would also ensure that the leftover food was distributed.
