Kerala water authority stops water supply for construction purpose

An official of KWA said that order has been issued stopping water supply for construction activities.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With summer around the corner, the Kerala water authority (KWA) has decided to halt the supply of water for construction purposes in the state capital. Many development projects in various sectors will be hit because of this. However, the KWA will continue to give domestic connections.

An official of KWA said that order has been issued stopping water supply for construction activities. "We are well prepared for facing summer. We do this every year and we will continue to give new connections for domestic customers," said the official.

S N Raghuchandran Nair, Member of National Governing Council of CREDAI, said that water authority should be more worried about the umpteen numbers of leaks and water wastage happening across the state capital.

"Water is being wasted around the year and they hardly take any step to fix it. There is absolutely no planning or proactive response from the part of the authority. Water is getting wasted and it goes on for days or months before they take any step to fixing the leak," said Mr Raghuchandran Nair.

He said that real estate is facing the worst slow down ever. "Around 400 to 500 real estate dealings used to happen per day in the state capital. Now such transactions have come down to 150 to 200. Business is already very dull. Every year during summer there is water scarcity and which is very much expected," he added. He said that the state capital is the only place in the state which is rich with good quality water.
