BJP has converted Governors as its general secretaries: MK Stalin
Chennai: The Raj Nivas showdown in Puducherry demonstrates yet again how the BJP ruling at the Centre uses the Governors and Lt Governors as its general secretaries, said DMK president M.K Stalin, urging for renewal of debate on the need to scrap these gubernatorial positions.
“That the Lt Governor alone is responsible for the political crisis in Puducherry is a blot on the Constitution”, tweeted Stalin on Thursday.
“This amply illustrates how the BJP Government has converted the Governors as its party general secretaries. This raises the question, yet again, whether we need the post of Governor at all”, the DMK chief has tweeted.
And he ended up getting heavily trolled, with one twitterati slamming him as the “son of Karunanidhi, who had used the then Governor to block the move by Amma (Jayalalithaa) to bring in Arasu Cable TV”.
“First know that Kiran Bedi is not another rubber stamp; first know that the Chief Minister and Lt Governor have equal powers in a Union Territory”, said another tweet, while yet another said in Puducherry UT, “the administrative powers are vested in the Union Home Ministry and exercised through Lt Governor; the supremacy of powers of LG of Delhi UT over state govt has been upheld by the Court”.
Yet another wanted to know why the DMK had kept mum when N. Rengasamy as CM in Puducherry complained his powers were being snatched by the Congress government at the Centre through the Lt Governor and creating serious problems to his government.
