Bengaluru: Rules altered for Kannadiga quota in private sector
Bengaluru: In an important decision, the state Cabinet on Thursday amended the Karnataka Industries Employment Standing Order Rule 1961 to enable reservation for Kannadigas in private organisations, as per the Sarojini Mahishi Committee report.
The amendment will apply only to C and D group employees and would be based on the availability of jobs and eligibility of applicants. Speaking to reporters here after the Cabinet meeting, RDPR Minister Mr Krishna Byregowda said that most private sector companies established in the state have received many concessions and facilities to run their businesses. However, even C and D group jobs are going to outsiders. The government, in the amendment has made provision for a complaint to the respective district deputy commissioners if the establishments fail to provide jobs to local people. Besides, the government has reserved the right to withdraw all facilities and concessions extended to these companies, he added.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also gave its consent to extend the time frame for the SIT in the Lokayukta, which is probing illegal mining in the state, by one year. The term of the SIT had come to an end on January 24 this year.
