Thiruvananthapuram: PFA blames it on petty politics

The CPM leader told DC that there are certain leaders in Malayinkeezhu Congress who act as the stooge of the land mafia .

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Recently a top Congress leader from Thiruvananthapuram district confided to one of his compatriots in the CPM that the local Congress neta, G. Pankajakshan was not a “small fish”. The CPM leader told DC that “there are certain leaders in Malayinkeezhu Congress who act as the stooge of the land mafia”.

PFA’s office bearers have knocked on all doors seeking the support of local MLAs and MPs including the grama panchayat. A top CPM leader told DC that he was aware of the “shady dealings with land mafia” resorted to by a local Malayinkeezhu Congress leader. Malayinkeezhu grama panchayat president S. Chandran Nair confirmed to DC that the panchayat secretary had sought an explanation from the PFA to explain reasons on why it should not be closed.

“They will have to ensure that the complaints raised by the locals are met and that dogs should not jump their boundary wall. We will not shut down the shelter in one go. They will also have to make sure that the shelter is kept clean”, said Chandran Nair.

When the protest and agitation before the PFA shelter snowballed into a major controversy, local CPM MP, A. Sampath intervened. He told DC that he was not aware of the latest developments on the show cause notice slapped on the PFA shelter. “I have already spoken to my local leadership. Local people are divided on the issue of the PFA shelter. I will take up the matter again”, said Sampath.

Local CPM MLA, I.B. Sathish told DC that he was planning to call for an all party meeting, which was not going to be easy.

“People there are prejudiced similar to what happened in Vilappilsala garbage plant. What local people actually require is orientation,”, said Sathish.
