DA case: An interesting case study for law students
Chennai: Late AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa will now be a case law for law students and legal luminaries across the country as the peculiar 21-year-old disproportionate case judgement was termed reportable by the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday. "Now the case judgment will be sent to all law journals and the state law college libraries will also get the landmark judgement translated into vernacular languages", said a senior faculty with a Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
This case also has awarded a hefty fine amount totalling around Rs 110 crore, besides convicting the four accused, including a sitting Chief Minister, the senior faculty explained, adding that for students of Tamil Nadu the case will be an easy one to remember adding to their jurisprudence.
"This case will now also be part of the legal syllabi and there might be even questions raised from this case for all competitive exams", said a law college professor in Chennai.
This case, according to me will join the popular list of case laws like S. R. Bommai Case, Ashok Kumar Vs Union of India, Kesavananda Bharati v State of Kerala cases for several reasons, he said. Balu also showered laurels on the Supreme Court bench for restoring in full, the trial court conviction of September 2014.
This is something similar to that of Navarasu murder case where the apex court restored the trial court's verdict set aside the Madras high court judgment-acquitting murderer John David.
