Aero India 2017: An eagle eye' for troops guarding border
Bengaluru: Protecting our borders from infiltration has become one the most important tasks for Indian Army and the para-military forces. To help combat infiltration and secure borders, Israel-based CONTROP Precision technologies, along with its Indian strategic partner Defsys Solutions Pvt Ltd, have developed ‘SPEED-ER’, a first of its kind gyro stabilized, land based ultra long range observation system.
A CONTROP spokesperson said that, “We developed SPEED-ER as an answer to the acute problem of unclear pictures under limited visibility conditions such as during day time with high humidity or smoke, and during twilight hours, when year round and round-the-clock surveillance is the highest priority.
SPEED-ER is the ultimate solution for programmes that require exceptionally long range surveillance of dozens of kilometres, under all weather conditions and all hours of the day. Due to this long range capability, fewer posts are required to protect a very large area, making the system cost effective.”
SPEED-ER is a multi-sensor system, consisting of a Cooled InfraRed Thermal Imaging Camera (MWIR) with a continuous zoom lens. It also has a SWIR camera with a continuous optical lens and 2 colour day cameras. The system also has LRF, LP and a command and control unit.
Although originally designed as border surveillance and coastline protection tool, SPEE-DER is also ideal for Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and Air defence – and the advanced gyro stabilization allows for installation on high masts, poles and fixed/mobile towers.
CONTROP specializes in the development and production of electro-optical and precision motion control systems. The company is hoping to find customers in the Asia-Pacific region.
