Chennai: File and administrative works were stalled for a few hours on Tuesday as government departments and secretariat went standstill watching news channels and mobile phones when the verdict of DA case was announced.

Footfall to government offices was also low throughout the day and the top IAS officers remained glued to their seats watching the political developments in the state.

Similar situation prevailed in the Ripon Buildings, the city civic headquarters, and peak hour traffic was also missing with roads remaining deserted till noon.

However with no major untoward incidents being reported across TN except the tension in Koovathur village normal traffic prevailed in Chennai on Tuesday evening.

“We are holding all department files and are not sending it to state ministers. However prominent files are sent to the office of chief minister and chief secretary seeking administrative clearances,” said a highly placed state official.

“I came to avail a community certificate for my son and was able to submit the application in Fort tashildar office within a few minutes as the usually crowded office had no crowd on Tuesday,” said S Kannan, a resident of Periamet.
