Tamil Nadu sanctions Rs 1 lakh each to kin of deceased Assamese workers

The six were injured when a boiler in which old tyres were being melted, exploded at the unit.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government today announced an assistance of Rs one lakh each to the families of six Assamese workers who died in an industrial mishap at Coimbatore last week.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa condoled the death of Kunal, Tarun, Pritam, Bikash, Prijun and Saroj, adding, she had directed that the assistance be disbursed from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

"I express my sympathies with their families," she said in a statement.

The six were injured when a boiler in which old tyres were being melted, exploded at a unit in Podanur area on the outskirts of Coimbatore on February 11.

They later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
