Karimnagar: Crane crashes at well digging site, two killed

Two other labourers were also injured in the mishap.

Karimnagar: Two daily-wage labourers of a family died on the spot when a crane broke and collapsed on them while they were engaged in digging a well at Jagannathpur in Elkathurthy mandal on Sunday.

Two other labourers were also injured in the mishap. Their condition is stable. The deceased were identified as Kasturi Raju, 27, and his father-in-law Pallepu Mallaiah, 55, hailing from Koppuru village in Bheemadeverapalli mandal. The injured are Soora Ramesh and Kasturi Raju.

Both Raju and Mallaiah died when they got buried under the earth after the crane broke and fell on them as it tried to lift a large boulder. Two other labourers escaped as they received only minor injuries in the incident. They were engaged by Gutam Sammi Reddy, a resident of the village for digging the well in his farm, said Elkathurthy ASI B. Veera Raju.

Mallaiah is survived by three daughters and his wife. Raju has two children and wife. He is married to the eldest daughter of Mallaiah.

Rajamma, the wife of Mallaiah, filed a complaint with the police and a case was booked against Sammi Reddy. The bodies were shifted to Huzurabad government hospital for conducting postmortem.
