NCST tells Sree Chitra Institute to suspend recruitments

The Commission asked the DST Secretary to revert with the action taken report within a week.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has asked Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), to issue immediate direction to Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Science and Technology (STIMST) to put on hold the new recruitment process.

The Commission asked the DST Secretary to revert with the action taken report within a week. The Commission's direction comes in the wake of a complaint from Mr Biju A.S. of Wayanad alleging that SCTIMST was not complying with the reservation norms.

In a letter to the DST on January 11, the Commission said that it had sent a notice to the President and Director of the Institute on November 30, 2018. Since there was no reply from the institute, a reminder was also sent through mail on January 8, 2019. But till date there is no response.

The applicant had informed that without making any changes in the previous reservation policy, the institute had scheduled power point presentation for new recruitment from January 8 to January 15 and recruitment from January 21 to 22.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Sree Chitra institute said in a letter to K Somaprasad, MP, on October 2018, that Union Minister for Science & Technology Harsh Vardhan had made it clear that SCTIMST had issued the notification of recruiting candidates against 36 Group A posts (both academic and non-academic) as per the reservation policy of of Government of India.

While advertising, details of reservation were mentioned against the reserved posts in the advertisement itself. The recruitment process has already been completed and the institute cannot withdraw the notification and re-notify the same, the Minister informed.

The DST has directed the Institute to make reservation policy as a part of the notification. Accordingly SCTIMST has included the reservation policy as part of the instructions to candidates.
