Fake' teachers result of data mismatch in Telangana
Hyderabad: The report by All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) may have said that 80,000 teachers out of the 1.4 lakh working in various colleges and the universities in the state are ‘fake’, but according to the Telangana Private Engineering College Association, 80,000 teachers were considered ‘fake’ because of the wide gap between the intake sanctioned by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), UGC and universities on one hand and the actual admissions at the college level on the other.
The college associations said that though the AISHE report was prepared on the basis of Aadhaar card registrations, teachers who don’t have Aadhaar cards yet are not fake teachers; it’s just that they have not furnished the necessary details.
According to UGC and AICTE norms, the teacher-students ratio in higher education institutions should be 1:20.
Mr Rajeshwar Reddy of Telangana Private Engineering College Association said, “Teachers are not at all fake as referred to by MHRD. Teachers’ personal data is not on record because of the massive gap between approved intake and the actual admissions at the college level. Colleges maintain records as per the actual admissions. This year onwards, the data relating to teachers will be maintained by private colleges.”
Education expert professor G.V. K. Reddy said, “The ‘fake’ teachers shown in the AISHE report is the result of irregular update of data by institutions and unhealthy competition among institutions among other reasons.”
