YSRC asks CEC to check inaccuracies in voter rolls
Vijayawada: A YSR Congress leaders’ delegation, led by its general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, on Thursday met Chief Election Commissi-oner (CEC) Sunil Arora and urged him to delete inaccurate votes that found a place in the electoral rolls of Andhra Pradesh that were published recently.
Mr Vijaya Sai Reddy also urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take action against the erring officials.
“We request your good offices to flush out such fraudulent, bogus, ineligible voters from the electoral rolls of Andhra Pra-desh and make a complaint before the competent court so as to see that the erring officials get punished so that others are deterred from breaching democracy in the interest of the whole electioneering process. We bring to your kind notice the glaring and shocking instances in the publishing of electoral rolls by the Ele-ction Commission of Andh-ra Pradesh on September 1, 2018, that reflects serious inaccuracies and irregularities in the preparation of electoral rolls,” Mr Vijaya Sai Reddy said.
He added that out of the 3.6 crore voters, as on September 1, 2018, spread across 13 districts of Andh-ra Pradesh comprising 175 constituencies having 45,920 polling booths, YSRC was giving specific examples of duplication/ multiple entries/demographically similar entries in the electoral rolls which accounts to 34,17,125 votes across 175 constituencies of Andhra Pradesh and dual votes of 18,50,511 across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.
“The Election Commiss-ion has adequate constitutional, statutory powers and machinery to ensure that electoral rolls are correct and authentic. It is not for political parties to do the research and identify malpractices/wrongful additions/deletions/duplications in the electoral rolls. These votes could and would influence the results of the elections and such influencing could never be considered the voice of the genuine electorate. The will and wish of the real and genuine voters is certainly marred with such duplicate voters and voters having dual votes in both the states as well as in the same constituency and other constituencies,” he added.
In an 18 page detailed representation, Mr Vijaya Sai Reddy had cited many instances of inaccuracy in Voters’ lists.
“As the Election Commission is aware, YSRC lost the power with a slender margin of six lakh votes in the 2014 general elections and when we analysed reasons, we were shocked to know that the bogus and duplicate votes alone drow-ned us. Hence, we request your good offices to flush out such fraudulent, bogus, ineligible voters from the electoral rolls of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
