Warangal: Spotlight now on panchayat polls

The High Court has already ordered the state to complete the election process before January 10 next year.

Warangal: With the Assembly elections in the state done, the focus now shifts to the Panchayat elections which are long overdue. The High Court has already ordered the state government to complete the panchayat election process before January 10 next year.

The government officials who, until recently, worked for the Assembly elections are now shifting gears to work for the elections to be held for electing representatives to the village panchayats.

After the terms of the representatives in villages ended on August 2 this year, the state government had appointed special officers to look after the village panchayat affairs.

The government has already announced new gram panchayats created in Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Mahabubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli and Jangaon districts.

The High Court ruling on October 11 ordered the state government to complete the election process within three months. The officials swung into action and started preparation for the election process. The process was delayed after the government dissolved the assembly and called for early polls.

The caste-wise notification is now expected to be released on December 15. After updating the voters’ list, the final notification would be released. The officials have already started conducting village meetings to finalise the voters’ list. Once completed, the final picture of the number of voters from each community would become clear. The reservations too are yet to be finalised. After the new government takes shape, the final decisions will be taken by the new Cabinet.
