Hyderabad: Upset with her alcoholic husband, not changing his habits despite several requests, a 25-year-old committed suicide by immolating herself at her house in Shameerpet on Thursday.
According to Shameerpet police, P. Srilatha, 25, got married to P. Mahendar four years ago and they were living in Shameerpet. Mahendar recently became addicted to alcohol which upset Srilatha.
Despite several requests Mahender did not stop drinking. Upset with that, she latched the house from inside on Thursday morning and set herself ablaze using kerosene. The locals heard her scream, broke open the doors and rushed her to Gandhi Hospital, where she succumbed at about 11.30 am, said the police.
Shameerpet inspector B Naveen Reddy said “Srilatha along with her two sons aged two years and eight months, were present at the home. She immolated herself in the kitchen and received about 50 percent burns. The kids were safely rescued by their neighbours, and were later handed over to their grandparents. A case has been registered under suspicious death on the complaint of the deceased woman’s kin for the probe, and the body was handed over to them after the autopsy at the mortuary.”
