Hyderabad: Family members of the four women who died after the C-section surgeries at Niloufer Hospital have appealed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for compensation.
The deaths occurred between January 28 and February 4. The government’s inquiry report has, however, given a clean chit to the hospital’s doctors and no action has been taken against them by the drug controller either.
Relatives of the deceased women had claimed negligen-ce on the part of doctors.
There were a total five deaths, of which one wo-man was out-station patient and did not belong to the city. Her family is not a part of the petition sent to the Chief Minister.
Mujtaba Hasan Askari, who has been assisting the bereaved families in their quest for compensation, said, “We are requesting the government to give compensation to the families on moral grounds be-cause they hail from economically weaker sections of the society. We are not disputing the final inquiry report, despite it lacking substance. We only want the family members, especially the grandparents, to be in a position to take care of the young children.”
The State Human Rights Commission has scheduled a hearing in the case for January 23.
