Kurnool: With a schedule to elect a member of the legislative council from Kurnool local body constituency has been announced, the political heat is catching on with both TDP and YSRCP. While TDP is buoyant with Nandyal by election result, the YSRCP is banking on the popularity of their leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Praja Sankalpa Yatra which would conclude in the district recently. This election was necessitated as Silpa Chakrapani Reddy resigned and joined YSRCP during Nandyal by election last August. He was elected on TDP ticket against YSRCP’s Gouru Venkat Reddy.
It is believed that YSRCP was keenly rearranging the arithmetic of winnable candidates from its stable. As Gouru Venkat Reddy had lost the election with just 62 votes against Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, political observers are mulling over the choice of Jagan which would be largely against fielding the defeated candidate. A party senior said that there are fair chances of Silpa Chakrapani Reddy being fielded as the YSRCP candidate. If that happens, Gouru Venkat Reddy would leave the party, it is said.
He is already distancing himself from the party programs, the source said. On the other hand, TDP is likely to scrutinise the names of KE Prabhakar, brother of Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy. Though names of Sajjala Sridhar Reddy, son in law of Nandyal MP S.P. Y Reddy, former MLAs Menakshi Naidu, Challa Rama Krishna Reddy are doing the rounds, it is unlikely that old horses were preferred, the source added.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced the schedule for the MLC election of Kurnool local body authorities constituency. Notification will be issued on December 19 and December 26 is the last date of making nominations. The election is to be conducted on January 12, 2018 and the counting will be held on January 16.
As per schedule, receiving nominations would end on December 26. Scrutiny would be held on 27 and withdrawals would end on 29. Around 804 MPTCs, 53 ZPTCs, ward councilors including the ward members and 227 people calculating, make the total figure to 1084 voters.
