Guntur: Admitting that there has been a marked increase in ganja smuggling in Andhra Pradesh, the AP Home Minister N. Chinnarajappa said that the police have initiated several measures to curb the ganja smuggling with the help of the latest technology. But he also added that criminals were getting to be tech savvy too, making it much more challenging for the police to do their job. Mr Rajappa was at the inaugural function of the newly constructed Vihara Complex police dormitory of 200 beds built at a cost of Rs 4.30 crores near the APSP battalion at Mangalagiri of Guntur district on Wednesday.

Mr Rajappa said that all amenities were available to the police department in the united AP but after bifurcation, the AP police department had to gather its resources and slowly build itself up again. Gradually it started getting all amenities. The DGP office was inaugurated recently with all modern facilities and now the police dormitory. Mr Rajappa announced that soon the AP Police Academy would be established in Amaravati.

Mr Rajappa appreciated the fact that the police dormitory was constructed in a remarkably short time. He added that the police department was taking measures to turn all conventional police stations into Adarsha smart police stations in the 13 districts of the AP in the next six months through a special drive.

He also affirmed that the government had no plans about shifting the APSP battalion from Mangalagiri. At the function, Mr Rajappa also spoke about several issues that the police have dealt with and a few issues those still needed to be addressed. He claimed that the police department had capped the activities of the sand mafia to a great extent and had made it amply clear that it would not tolerate any rowdy activity. He assured about justice being served to Agri Gold victims and further stated about stern action being taken against cricket betting mafias.
