Hyderabad: Teen driver gives up, gets bail

The teen, immediately after the accident, went to Nizamabad fearing police action and was hiding at home.

Hyderabad: The 16-year-old whose SUV rammed into a couple at Bachupally had come to Mithilanagar along with his five friends to take selfies. On Tuesday, the teen surrendered before the police and secured bail after submitting surety.

Techie Nagendra Kumar who was injured in the mishap is recovering after surgery; his wife Devi is unconscious and her condition is said to be critical.

The teen, immediately after the accident, went to Nizamabad fearing police action and was hiding at home.

On Tuesday he along with his father came to Bachupally police station. Police served notice on him under Section 41 of CrPC asking him to appear for further inquiry, as the offence under Section 338 IPC was a non-cognizable offence category with punishment of less than seven years if convicted.

Bachupally Inspector K Balakrishna Reddy said that after completing the investigation and collecting evidence including the medico legal Certificate, they would alter charges under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.

The boy’s uncle G. Phanindra submitted surety for him. Although the father allowed the boy to drive the vehicle, he can claim ignorance stating that it happened without his knowledge.

“He can claim that he was not at the spot when the incident happened and was completely unaware. Even his uncle says that he was sleeping when the boy took out the vehicle,” investigating officials said.

The boy a student of Bhashyam School in Nizampet was driving a SUV with his friends and lost control.

Instead of applying brakes, he hit the accelerator resulting in a crash severely injuring a techie Nagendra Kumar and his wife Devi.
