HMDA demolishes Bhandari Layout floors

Seven five-storey under-construction apartments were being built without permission.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority razed illegal structures in Bhandari Layout in Nizampet on Tuesday.

Seven five-storey under-construction apartments were being built without permission. Besides, the layout had not been approved by the HMDA nor did the owners have permission to build multi-storey structures.

Bhandari Layout was in the news when torrential rains on September 21 flooded the area. The cellars of nearly 60 apartments were completely submerged, and residents had to shift to safer locations.

DSP Srinivas Reddy of HMDA’s enforcement cell said there was some resistance from locals to the demolitions that took place from 10 am to 6 pm but police intervened and ensured that the staff completed the work.

Elsewhere, HMDA razed as many as 42 buildings in Kistareddypet, Kethireddypet, Abdullapurmet, Pocharam, Korremula, Nizampet, Badangpet and Ibrahimpatnam.

GHMC comes up with 4 debris plants
The GHMC has set up four construction and demolition waste plants at Fathullaguda, Jeedimetla, Kothwalguda and Mallapur. Interested parties can call GHMC call centre (040-21111111) or make contact through ‘My GHMC’ app to dispose of concrete waste.

The GHMC over the years has been struggling to find a sustainable solution for construction and demolition waste management in compliance with C&D waste management rules 2016.

GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said, “Zonal officers of the GHMC have been directed to monitor the collection and transportation system for lifting of claimed C&D waste from bulk generators, by linking the demand requests to the existing call center number 040-2111111 and by including C&D waste lifting as one of the categories in the ‘My GHMC’ app.

He said the C&D waste thus collected through call centres will be transported and dumped in the decentralised plants for future processing after the plants are established by successful bidding. The commissioner directed the transport wing to deploy GHMC vehicles to collect and transport bulk generators.
