Jagan to Lay Stone for Varikapudisela Lift Scheme in Palnadu District on November 15

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would set the foundation stone for Varikapudisela lift irrigation scheme across the Varikapudisela rivulet at Gangalagunta village of Veldurthi mandal in Palnadu district on November 15. He would also address a public meeting.

The proposed project has got the requisite clearances from the Centre, especially pertaining to wildlife as it is located in the Gangalagunta reserve forest area.

The project is coming up at a cost of around Rs 350 crore in phase-1 and aims to lift 280 cusecs of water from the rivulet to meet the drinking water needs of the people in the seven villages of Veldurthi mandal and to irrigate about 25,000 acres of land. A pump house will be set up to lift water from the rivulet.

State irrigation authorities maintain that intervention of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy helped to get the wildlife clearance from the Centre and go ahead with the project along with environmental and other clearances.

Though the project was proposed 70 years ago and the respective governments set stones, no clearances were obtained and the project remained on paper. Moreover, the people living in the upper Palnadu area face trouble to get water for both drinking and irrigation purposes. The upcoming project would cater to both these needs.

According to the tentative schedule, the CM will leave his residence at Tadepalli at 9.45 am and arrive at Macherla and set the foundation stone for the Varikapudisela lift irrigation project. He would address a public meeting and later return to his residence in Tadepalli.
