Tamil Nadu Election Commission gears up for LB polls

The civic bodies elections would be held after a gap of three-years.

CHENNAI: State Election Commissioner R. Palanisamy will hold a three-day consultation meeting with the southern district collectors on conducting the local elections, from tomorrow.

Already the political parties have started gearing up for the polls for which the schedule is yet to be notified.

The State Election Commission is likely to notify elections in the last week of November or in the first week of December. According to sources the elections are likely to be held in two phases — first phase in the last week of December and the second phase in the first week of January.

Presently, the State Election Commissioner R Palanisamy is reviewing the State-wide arrangements on a daily basis. From tomorrow he would discuss the arrangements with the collectors of Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts; Dindigul, Madurai, Theni and Virudhunagar on Nov. 15 and Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Pudukkottai district collectors on Nov. 16.
