KPCC list opens Pandora’s Box
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even before the KPCC committee list has been officially announced, it has opened a Pandora's Box among those leaders who have not managed to get in to the list. But when a section of KPCC secretaries belonging to the ‘I’ group made much hue and cry, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has allegedly assured them of promotion as KPCC general secretaries. At the same time, women leaders are also peeved with the leadership as they feel that as always they have got a “rotten deal”.
Initially, the ‘I’ group had not considered the existing KPCC secretaries for promotion. But with pressure mounting from within the group, Chennithala had re-thinking which led to them being considered for KPCC general secretaries post. It is generally seen as a ‘sweet victory’ for the existing KPCC secretaries like Jyothikumar Chamakkala (Chennith-ala), Pazhakulam Madhu (K. C. Venugopal), G. Rathikumar (Mullapally Ramachandran, Rajmo-han Unnithan and K. C. Venugopal) and K. Prav-een Kumar (K. Muraleedh-aran) who have got the backing of their senior leaders. Since the list provided by KPCC president Mullapally Ramachand-ran is already with Cong-ress interim president Sonia Gandhi, it is not known whether there will be further additions or deletions to the jumbo committee. But the KPCC secretaries will be appoi-nted only later. A senior Congress leader told DC that due to the Maharas-htra Government formation imbroglio, the KPCC committee list is still on hold before the AICC .
“If the AICC organising general secretary K. C. Venugopal and his deputy in charge of the State, Mukul Wasnik gets an opportunity to discuss on the KPCC list, then it will be announced without further delay”, said a senior Congress leader.
Meanwhile, there is a feeling of displeasure within the ‘I’ group against V. D. Satheesan MLA being considered towards the post of KPCC working president along with ‘A’ group leader Thampanoor Ravi. Their grievance is that while senior leaders who are in their 60’s and 70’s are being considered in the post of KPCC general secretaries, 55 year old Satheesan is getting promoted as working president. It is reliably learnt that few ‘I’ group leaders belonging to southern as well as central districts have raised this issue of Satheesan, before the leadership. But Chennithala is keen to promote Satheesan as ‘I’ group’s nominee so as to bring him against the powerful K. C. Venugopal. Currently, the women leaders who have allegedly got in to the list include K. C. Rosakutty (vice president), Padmaja Venugopal and Ramani P. Nair (both KPCC general secretaries).
