Hyderabad: Man booked for abetting wife's suicide

For about 10 years, Sunitha and Pandu lived happily, but Pandu soon got addicted to alcohol and started harassing his wife.

Hyderabad: Unable to bear the harassment of her alcoholic husband, a 34-year-old woman and a mother of three, committed suicide by hanging in her house at from Vanasthalipuram on Monday night.

According to the police, M. Sunitha, 34, a native of Mahbubnagar married one Pandu of the same district about 18 years ago.

The couple have three children. For about 10 years, Sunitha and Pandu lived happily, but Pandu soon got addicted to alcohol and started harassing his wife.

Pandu had also reportedly entered into an illegal relationship with another woman.

He has been mentally harassing and beating Sunitha for petty issues, and also threatened her with dire consequences for failing to give him a divorce.

“Sunitha recently moved to the city and lived at BN Reddy Nagar along with her kids. She works as a housemaid, in the city, but her husband’s harassment did not stop,” the police said.

“On Monday at about 10.30 pm, she hanged herself using a cloth and died. Based on her brother S. Krushnaiah’s complaint, a case of abetment to suicide has been booked against Pandu for investigation,” said the police.
