AIADMK members wrangle before minister

Most influenced got postings, claims a section.

Chennai: The AIADMK meeting in Dindigul which got up to select the members for booth committees besides discuss poll work, ended in a clash between factions in the party after a section claimed they were being given a raw deal for working sincerely for the party whereas some who ‘influenced’ got postings.

The argument which turned into an ugly fight in the presence of State Forest Minister Dindigul C. Srinivasan, saw the members fling chairs at each other. The Minister and party seniors later pacified them.

Even as district secretary Marudhuraj was addressing the cadres during the meeting at Nilakottai, a member from the party alleged that key posts were given to some persons in the Cooperative election while employment was given to some others in the nutritious meal department as they managed to ‘influence.' “But those who toiled for the growth of the party were given a raw deal. We were not rewarded with any posts in the party or government departments. Are we here only to work? Will we not get any postings?” he asked.

The accusations however evoked a stern rebuttal from his party colleague and an argument ensued between them. As they continued to argue ferociously, Marudhuraj, sensing things were going off the track, appealed to the members to stick to the day’s agenda and not to deviate. But in the midst of the wrangle, the groups started hurling chairs at each other in the presence of the Minister.

Later after things got settled, Mr Srinivasan urged the cadres to strive unitedly for the victory of the party. “On no account we should lose the opportunity of winning the election due to lack of unity among ourselves,” he said.
