Krishnanaiah demands parties to allocate 50% tickets to BCs

Hyderabad: National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah on Saturday demanded that all political parties provide 50 per cent tickets for BC communities in the Assembly elections. He said the association had been fighting for 50 per cent reservations for BCs for 30 years but the community candidates constituted only 20 per cent.

"Census of BC caste should be taken up in the population census; reservation for BC should be increased from 34 per cent to 52 percent in all panchayat raj organisations and constitutional protection should be given to the reservations," said Krishnaiah, who is also a YSRC Rajya Sabha member from AP.

He also wanted a separate Union ministry for BCs. Apart from this, special educational schemes, scholarships, fee reimbursement, training programs in the field of employment should be established at the central level, he said.

Krishnaiah wanted a “BC Act” to provide social protection and security to BCs on the lines of the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
