Hyderabad: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, senior-most judge of the Hyderabad High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
The Supreme Court collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice M.B. Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph, noted that Justice Ranganathan was the senior-most judge at the Hyderabad High Court, and found him suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
The vacancy at the Uttarakhand HC was caused by the elevation of Justice Joseph to the Supreme Court. While making the recommendation, the collegium noted that there was only one Chief Justice originally hailing from TS and AP High Court — Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court Justice R. Subhash Reddy – who is set to retire in January 2019. Justice Ranganathan was elevated as additional judge of the AP High Court on May 26, 2005, and appointed permanent judge on February 20, 2006. He served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court from July 30, 2016, to July 6, 2018.
