Hyderabad: The body of a newborn boy was found wrapped in a cloth on the roadside in Chaitanyapuri on Saturday.
Police suspect that the baby was dumped by his parents after his death.
Chaitanyapuri police officials suspect that the infant was abandoned by his parents. Locals noticed the body wrapped in a cloth and informed the police, following which a team arrived to inspect.
The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination and investigation is on after a case was booked.
Speaking on the issue, Achyuta Rao, a child rights activist said that to ensure that unwanted children are safe and secure, there is a government project called cradle that is operated with the help of women and child welfare authorities.
Through this scheme, mothers who want to disown their child can keep the baby in the cradle without revealing their identity and the government will shift the child to a Shishugriha and give it up for adoption.
“But the women and child welfare department have failed in implementing the scheme and there has been no awareness on the part of the department. This has led to the death of innocent children,” he said.
