Telangana child rights panel scrapped

Justice Challa Kodandaram was allowing the petitions challenging the appointment of Mr Gudimalla Ravi Kumar as chairperson.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday struck down the GOs issued by the government that appointed a chairperson and members to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Justice Challa Kodandaram was allowing the petitions challenging the appointment of Mr Gudimalla Ravi Kumar as chairperson and seven others as members to the commission through GO Ms No 11 dated July 10 and GO Ms No 18 on August 21.

City resident M.N.V. Srinivasa Rao, Dr P. Achyuta Rao, honorary president of the Balala Hakkula Sangham, Mr Nara Nageswara Rao and Mr Daranikota Ramu had moved separate petitions on the matter.

The petitioners contended that the appointments were made in violation of the procedure prescribed under Go Ms N 3, dated January 20, 2015.

While suggesting that persons who are committed to child education and welfare be considered for the posts, Justice Kodandaram directed the selection committee to consider persons having 10 years of experience in the field of protection of child rights or child welfare for appointment as members and chairperson of the commission.
