Rain rattles Bengaluru again, motorists stuck for hours

Traffic was thrown out of gear in Seshadripuram, Mysuru Road and other areas.

Bengaluru: Traffic in the city was hit badly as heavy downpour lashed southern, northern and central parts of Bengaluru on Friday evening.

Commuters, who spent several hours on roads, cursed civic authorities for not fixing drains and roads in spite of continued rains over the last couple of days.

Traffic was thrown out of gear in Seshadripuram, Mysuru Road and other areas.

“I left Koramangala around 6.30 pm and am still in Seshadripuram. It’s more than three-and-a-half hours now. God knows when I will reach my home in Jalahalli. It’s taking more than 10 minutes to cross even a few metres. This is the worst traffic jam I have seen in my life,” said Ashwath, a government official.

Meanwhile, vehicles had queued for about 4 km from Richmond Road towards K.R. Market due to rain and bad roads.

Bus submerged
On Mysuru Road, a KSRTC was submerged at the Nayandahalli junction and passengers were moved to safety.

On Race Course Road, the traffic police faced the wrath of the people as they reportedly blocked one side of the road for VIP movement, leaving thousands of commuters in the pouring rain.

A biker was injured when a building partially collapsed on him at Vyalikaval around 9 pm.

Later in the night, Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George visited areas affected by rain.
