Nalgonda: Debt ridden farmer ends life

According to the police, Yadaiah, a resident of S Lingottam village in Kanagal mandal, owned two acres agricultural land.

Hyderabad: Crop loss and increasing debt burden forced a farmer to commit suicide in Nalgonda district. Gunalapuri Yadaiah (56) hanged himself to death at his home on Friday.

According to the police, Yadaiah, a resident of S Lingottam village in Kanagal mandal, owned two acres agricultural land. He recently took another eight acres on lease to cultivate paddy and cotton. He also borrowed money to invest in the farm land.

Due to an irregular monsoon season, he incurred losses and became depressed. He was also worried about repaying the loans.

On Friday morning, after his wife, Sattamma, and younger daughter went to the fields, Yadaiah hanged himself to death. When they returned home for lunch, they found his body.

The Kanagal police handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem. Yadaiah had three daughters; two of them are married.
