Hyderabad: Road repairs to start today
Hyderabad: Road works number 486??? in the city will begin from October 14. Some 180 km of roads throughout Greater Hyderabad will be repaired at a cost of Rs 75 crore.
A training session providing important details on the quality of roads and construction was held for officers from the GHMC and contractors on Thursday for the first time.
Mr Subhash Singh, GHMC chief engineer (maintenance) said, “Pothole filling is different from roads restoration. Due to the rains in September, a majority of roads in the core area have been damaged and this needs road laying. The damage extends up to 50 to 100 metres of road length.”
He said complete road laying of 480 stretches will begin on Friday, October 14. “Over 90 per cent of the work will be carried out in the night hours and a small portion where traffic can be diverted will be done during morning hours.”
Traffic will be allowed to ply only once the work is completed and the work will be done in coordination with the traffic department, Mr Singh said.
In some areas traffic will be diverted and commuters will have to travel an extra 200-300 metres. This will be mainly from Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Jubilee check post to Madhapur, Yousufguda and in the IT corridor.
He added that commuters will have to “bear with us for 10 days or two weeks. In case of quality check, field engineers of GHMC will be present on the site. Third party quality checking will be done during and after execution.”
The officer said that there will not be any road block for hours as was the case during the repair works on the Panjagutta road.
“Panjagutta road laying was different as it was a concrete-cement road with little traffic. For restoration, however, no roads will be blocked. Portions where repairs are being done will be barricaded for a few hours, as the material that is used needs only about five hours to dry.”
