GHMC approves pay and play facility at civic body's sports arena
Hyderabad: The GHMC standing committee has approved a pay-and-play facility at its 12 sports complexes, especially for high demand sports like tennis, badminton and cricket. These facilities were earlier free.
The corporation is looking at charging users on an hourly basis, and will first implement the scheme during the weekends. The payment will be done online, and users will have to book time slots. It is already renting playgrounds to schools, colleges and private sports academies.
Mr K. Shiva Kumar Naidu, additional commissioner, sports, GHMC, said, “The pay-and-play concept is already functional at the Telangana Sports Authority. The GHMC wants to experiment with it.” He said the GHMC was yet to launch the website to make online bookings. It would displayed the rates too.
The GHMC has built multi-purpose sports complexes at Vijayanagar, Shaikpet, Ameerpet, Chandulal Baradari, Chandanagar and Gandhinagar.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy advised authorities to encourage sports activities. He said that schools and colleges may need space, as would corporate office.
