Anantapur: The family of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella launched a programme to ‘Promote alternate/additional livelihood for women and farmworkers’ in Anantapur district on Sunday.

Satya Nadella’s wife Anupama Nadella donated Rs 2 crores for the project on the occasion of the first death anniversary of former IAS officer B.N. Yugandhar, a native of Bukkapauram village in the district.

After retired IAS officer Venugopal, who is the brain behind the project and father of Anupama, addressed the webinar, collector Gandham Chandrudu formally launched the NGO, to be headed by Dr Malla Reddy.

Recalling Nadella Yugandhar as a brilliant IAS officer, who had served in the Prime Minister’s Office and as the member of Planning Commission, collector Chandrudu said the project would be taken up with Rs 10 crore. It would prove a boon for a large number of farmers and farm labourers, who returned to their native villages after the outbreak of COVID-19.

The stark miseries of migrants that came to the fore in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic reflects a tragic situation, Venuogapal observed and hoped that the project would help farmers in many ways.

The project aims to benefit 3,000 women/families in one and a half years’ time.  Launching the project, Gandham Chandrudu distributed cheques among 12 women farmers.

Malla Reddy said they were planning to name the project after Yugandhar.
