VIJAYAWADA: Minister for energy, forest and environment Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said that the State Government is giving utmost priority for effective implementation of nine-hours’ free power supply during daytime to the agricultural sector which would give a boost to the rural economy and strengthen the farming community and also focus on development of power infrastructure.

The minister said that 9-hours’ free power scheme is the pet project of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and asked the officials to strive hard  to make the scheme a role model for the country. As the state is an agriculture based economy, effective implementation of the said scheme would help to improve agricultural productivity, improve the living standards of farmers and eventually help in the economic development of the State, the minister said.

Speaking to the officials, during a high-level review meeting held on power sector at AP Secretariat on Friday, the minister said that AP is the first state in the country which is implementing free power supply for agriculture for 9 hours in daytime. This credit goes to the Chief Mini-ster Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who always strive for the welfare of farming community.
