Vellore: Youth rescued from power pole
VELLORE: The TNEB office at Shenbakkam here witnessed tensed moments for a while on Friday morning, as an youth scaled its compound wall and on entering the premises, climbed a high tension power pole.
TNEB staff on duty who witnessed the drama, quickly switched off the power and tried to persuade the person to come down, but the attempt failed.
They in turn alerted the fire and rescue department personnel and the police, and both teams rushed to the spot. Personnel from the fire and rescue services quickly went up the pole, and after persuasion, they brought the youth to the ground.
Seeing some injuries on his person, police summoned an ambulance and admitted him to the Adukkamparai GH.
Further police investigation revealed that the youth named Nirmal Singh hailed from Chhattisgarh. As he was found roaming around Thillai Nagar area in Shenbakkam on Thursday, residents and passersby suspected him to be a child trafficker and assaulted him badly, in which he sustained injuries.
Frightened and not knowing what to do, he entered the TNEB premises and climbed the power pole, but luckily for him, TNEB staff disconnected power and he survived.
Questions remain as to why he came to Vellore, whether he was really involved in child trafficking or else was he involved in any other nefarious activities. Police are looking into all angles and are investigating.
