DMK rule in 2006-2011, total FDI into the state was Rs.25,977 crore, under the AIADMK government since 2011.

CHENNAI: Strongly refuting the Opposition DMK leader M K Stalin’s criticisms on the direct foreign investments (FDI) and industrial scenario in Tamil Nadu, the State Industries minister, M C Sampath on Friday said more FDI has come in under the AIADMK rule than during the previous DMK regime.

Citing RBI figures, Mr. Sampath in a detailed statement said that while during the DMK rule in 2006-2011, total FDI into the state was Rs.25,977 crore, under the AIADMK government since 2011, first under the tenure under Ms J Jayalalithaa and now under the leadership of Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami, the total FDI that has come into the state is a massive Rs.1.47 lakh crore.

Mr. Sampath said after the second Global Investors Meet (GIM) in Chennai in 2019, in the last nine months alone, Mr. Palaniswami had laid the foundation stone for 22 projects, out of which four have commenced commercial production. The new electric car manufactured by Hyundai at its Sriperumbudur plant has also rolled out successfully this year, he said and termed Stalin's ill-informed outbursts to him being unable to tolerate the ‘AIADMK’s success’. He also listed the names of the new projects that have gone into commercial production.
