Jagtial: Villagers block ministers’, demand supply of water

They said this was mainly due to the negligence of officials supervising the construction of the canal.

JAGTIAL: Panchayat raj minister Erraballi Dayakar Rao and welfare minister Koppula Eshwar faced the heat from victims of Kondagattu bus accident and farmers of Himmatraopet, Ramsagar, Shanivarpeta and Kurmaipally when the two visited the Kodimyala mandal on Friday to participate in the 30-day action plan.

Villagers blocked the way of the two ministers for nearly 30 minutes and staged a dharna demanding that the government supply water to their villages for irrigation purpose and compensation be paid to victims of the Kondagattu bus accident, which took place last year.

The villagers told the ministers that though Godavari water from Yellampalli reservoir is flowing to nearby villages, they were not being supplied the same to meet their irrigation needs.

They said this was mainly due to the negligence of officials supervising the construction of the canal.

They demanded that construction works of canal be completed, so that their villages —Himmatraopet, Ramsagar, Shanivarpeta and Kurmaipally — too get irrigation water from the Yellampalli reservoir.

They further demanded that the ministers help the victims of Kondagattu bus accident by providing them financial aid, along with a government job to one family member of each of the victims who had died in the accident.

Ministers Dayakar Rao and Koppula Eshwar and MLA S. Ravi Shankar assured the villagers that they would take up these issues with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, so that irrigation water could be supplied to their villages as early as possible. They also assured that they would expedite compensation to the victims of the Kondagattu bus accident.
